Agasthyarkoodam sits inside the Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve in Thiruvananthapuram district. The route starts at Bonacaud, climbs through forest and grassland to the Forest Department camp at Athirumala, and finishes on a steep rock face with safety ropes before the summit where a statue of Sage Agastya stands.
It is a hard trek. The days are long, the climbs are steep and the forest is a protected area with firm rules. If you prepare well and go with an organised group, it is also one of the most rewarding walks in the Western Ghats.
